Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory test analysis

One and Only

The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) is Iowa’s only fully accredited, full service veterinary laboratory. The lab processes 124,000 cases and performs more than 1.65 million tests annually and was the first to identify, diagnose and sequence and fully characterize Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PEDv) in the United States.

International Resource

The Center for Food Security and Public Health (CFSPH) is an international resource on diseases and emergency response. The center’s website receives 27 million visits each year and delivers training modules for the USDA’s National Veterinary Accreditation Program and the Emerging and Exotic Diseases of Animals course.

Iowa State is the home to the country’s only national center devoted to swine education. The College of Veterinary Medicine’s Swine Medicine Education Center educates students and veterinary professionals from throughout the world on the most progressive, evidence-based practices in pork production and health assurance.

Research Prowess

The College of Veterinary Medicine receives more USDA research funding than any other U.S. veterinary college. Our researchers play key roles in efforts to control infectious diseases, developing vaccines, developing new diagnostic tools and delivery methods to improve food safety and security, and controlling and eradicating animal diseases.
