Who We Are

The Department of Biomedical Sciences provides superior education in basic health sciences, including anatomy (both human and veterinary), histology, physiology, pharmacology, cell biology and toxicology. Our courses span the undergraduate, graduate and professional DVM curricula.

BMS faculty engage in cutting edge research emphasizing a “One Health” approach that recognizes the interconnection between human and animal health. This approach encompasses both basic science as well as clinical and translational research, and aligns with the wider research mission of the college.”

To follow a steady continuous path of improvement, learning, and investigation that leads to knowledge in the Biomedical Sciences and the spread of that knowledge to those in human and animal health supporting the mission of Iowa State University and the College of Veterinary Medicine.
